Questions

Asked about the Powder River Basin.

Can I drive a kei truck on the road in the Powder River Basin?

Wyoming registers a mini truck as a multipurpose vehicle. A registered multipurpose vehicle may use any public street or highway except an interstate. Montana's Motor Vehicle Division titles and registers Japanese mini-trucks as unconventional light vehicles. Once the owner certifies its street equipment, a kei truck registers as a passenger car or truck with ordinary plates. Each state page gives the full rule.

Where does a kei truck fit in the Basin?

Ranch rounds across big country and site work at the surface mines where the operator allows it.

What about a newer truck governed to 25 mph?

It enters the country as off road equipment, governed to 25 mph. In Wyoming it works ranches, farms and private land with no plate. Designated ORV trails with a permit. In Montana it works ranches, farms and private land without OHV registration. Public lands, trails and easements as a registered OHV. Each state page has the rest of the rule.
