US 550 and the state park
The drive to Ridgway State Park is not open from 2028.
CDOT posts US 550 at 60 mph north of town, from MP 103.8 to MP 126.5, past every park entrance. From 1 January 2028 a kei truck may use a road posted 55 or less and may only cross a faster one, so it can drive US 550 through Ridgway itself and no farther north.
Reported, not in CDOT data
The Town of Ridgway wrote on 7 April 2026 that CDOT lowered MP 103.9 to 104.4, just north of town, from 60 to 50 mph. Both CDOT datasets still show 60 there. A posted sign always decides.
Limited-access highway
To confirmNot a limited-access highway in the ordinary sense. US 550 and CO 62 through Ouray County are R-A, NR-A and NR-B highways with at-grade intersections every few tenths of a mile (CDOT lists them) and private driveways by permit, not E-X or F-W and no freeway designation was found. The legal meaning of the words in the kei act is not settled by any source read.
What would change it
CDOT posting 55 mph or less on MP 104.4 to 108.3 of US 550, about 3.9 miles, would open the road to the main park entrance.
CDOT data, read 28 October 2026: CDOT OTIS SpeedOn (API SpeedLimit), CDOT open data Highways layer (SPEEDLIM, ACCESS_, CITY, COUNTY). Mileposts are CDOT's and rise north on US 550.
