Can I own one here

Owning one in Clark County.

On your own land, yes

Owning a kei truck and working it on a ranch, a farm, a mine or private property does not depend on a road title. Some states still ask for a title or an off road registration.

A 25 year truck on the road

Road use unclear, to confirm. Nevada has no kei truck law. The DMV's title guide lists the documents to register and title a gray market vehicle with a Non-US Vehicle brand, while DMV compliance staff told a state advisory committee in April 2025 that kei vehicles should not be registered.

A newer governed truck

Off highway vehicle. Nevada titles and registers off-highway vehicles through the DMV. NRS 490.060 counts any motor vehicle used on public lands for recreation as an off-highway vehicle.

Roads open. County roads Open

Every unpaved county road is open to OHVs unless the county has posted signs closing it (14.65.055). Paved county roads are open only where they appear on the county's list of designated roads, which is kept with the County Clerk and Public Works and changed by commission resolution. On those roads OHVs may travel only to and from riding areas and no more than 2 miles (14.65.030 and 14.65.040). The list itself is not published in the code and was not read. Large all-terrain vehicles keep their NRS 490.105 right to general and minor county roads, which 14.65.040 leaves in place. Clark County Code 14.65, Ordinance No. 4274 of 17 February 2015, definitions amended by Ordinance No. 5241 of 6 May 2025, code codified through Ordinance No. 5387 of 3 June 2026, read 28 October 2026

State highways Crossings only

  • No segment opened and Interstate 15 is closed. Mesquite's code says its OHV chapter does not allow OHVs on Interstate 15. No NDOT approval of any OHV segment in the county was found. NRS 490.090 and 490.100, read 28 October 2026

Importing a kei truck

The essentials, in short.

A truck under 25 can come in only as governed off road equipment, and only if its engine family held an EPA nonroad certificate for that model year. No kei engine family was certified for mini trucks before model year 2010, so a truck built after 31 October 2001 and before model year 2010 has no federal door until its 25th birthday.
