Can I own one here

Owning one in Grafton County.

On your own land

On land its owner owns or leases a kei truck needs no OHRV registration, and a truck used only for work is not an OHRV.

A 25 year truck on the road

Road use unclear, to confirm. New Hampshire law does not name kei trucks. Its title rule for a used vehicle bought abroad asks for import papers such as the HS-7, and neither statute nor rule says how a 25 year exemption is read, so the DMV's Title Bureau decides truck by truck.

A newer governed truck

Utility terrain vehicle. New Hampshire does not title OHRVs.

State rules

Roads and towns

Roads and towns in Grafton County.

Towns only. Lisbon opens its town streets and low speed class VI roads to OHRVs riding to the Ammonoosuc Rail Trail from late May to early November, so a governed kei truck registered with Fish and Game as an OHRV can use them, crossing US 302 only at the painted crossing.

In town Some

  • Some Lisbon. Any locally maintained town street and any class VI road posted 35 mph or under, to reach the Ammonoosuc Rail Trail, a class IV road or a state approved OHRV trail. US 302 is crossing only, at a painted route from School Street to Hydro Boulevard in front of 6 South Main Street. Closed 4 November to 23 May and from half an hour after sunset to half an hour before sunrise. The board reviews the ordinance each year by press report. Ordinance, Operation of Off Highway Recreational Vehicles on Town Roads, approved 9 May 2022, effective 23 May 2022, read 28 October 2026
  • Some Haverhill. The Bureau of Trails describes a town road ride linking North Haverhill to the Ammonoosuc Rail Trail in Woodsville. The town's act was not read. Bureau of Trails advisory, read 28 October 2026, read 28 October 2026

County roads Closed

New Hampshire counties keep no public roads. Every local road, class IV to VI, belongs to a town, which opens it under RSA 215-A:6 IX. RSA 215-A:6 IX, read 28 October 2026

State highways To confirm

  • Grafton is one of two counties where the Bureau of Trails may open state highway segments with DOT and Safety approval, RSA 215-A:10 IV(a). The statute names none in Grafton and no designation was found. Lisbon's ordinance keeps OHRVs off US 302 but for one crossing. RSA 215-A:10 IV(a); Lisbon ordinance of 2022, read 28 October 2026

Importing a kei truck

The essentials, in short.

A truck under 25 can come in only as governed off road equipment, and only if its engine family held an EPA nonroad certificate for that model year. No kei engine family was certified for mini trucks before model year 2010, so a truck built after 31 October 2001 and before model year 2010 has no federal door until its 25th birthday.
