Can I own one here
Owning one in Piscataquis County.
On your own land
A kei truck in Maine is an off-road vehicle that cannot be registered or titled, and it works on land its owner owns or leases or on another's land with permission, never on a public way.
On the farm
No farm rule puts a kei truck on a Maine road. The special registration permit of 29-A 501(8), which lets an ATV travel a road for farm purposes between farm lots, is a Title 29-A registration that 354 forbids for an off-road vehicle.
A 25 year truck on the road
Closed to road use. Maine classes a mini truck as an off-road vehicle, and an off-road vehicle cannot be registered or used on a public way.
A newer governed truck
Private land only. None. Off-road vehicles are exempt from Maine title under 29-A MRSA 652(17).
Roads and towns
Roads and towns in Piscataquis County.
Towns only. Greenville runs ATV access routes on its streets to the Moosehead trails and kept its ATV hours in September 2025, but a kei truck is not an ATV in Maine, so it works private land and stays off every public way.
This rests on Maine law. No Piscataquis County ordinance or resolution was read.
In town Some

County roads To confirm
Maine has no county road system. County commissioners designate ATV access routes only on public ways in the county's unorganized territory, 13157-A(6)(H). No county act was found.

Importing a kei truck
The essentials, in short.
A truck under 25 can come in only as governed off road equipment, and only if its engine family held an EPA nonroad certificate for that model year. No kei engine family was certified for mini trucks before model year 2010, so a truck built after 31 October 2001 and before model year 2010 has no federal door until its 25th birthday.
Two lanes
A road truck must be 25 years old by its own build date. A newer truck comes in only as governed off road equipment with a certified engine.
The 25 percent duty
Every kei truck pays the 25 percent truck duty at the port, whatever its age.
The paperwork
The customs entry and the two federal declarations, DOT Form HS-7 and EPA Form 3520-1, travel with the truck to your title office.
The title
Keep every stamped paper with the truck. Your state title office asks to see them.
